2. About Solar Charge
2.1 Market Background
Over the past number of years and currently in South Africa today and indeed in countries on the African continent, the supply of electricity as well as the capacity to supply the market needs by the Government Parastatals has reached critical proportions.
In addition, consumers have had to endure every increasing electricity tariffs enforced on them by the Parastatals in order to fund their huge capital expenditures for the implementation of additional generation plants. Moreover, consumers have experienced black-outs on a regular basis.
Indeed, black-outs in many African countries have become the norm and the rate of daily hours where black-outs occur are increasing at an alarming rate. The situation is worsened by the Parastatals inability to supply electricity to many rural areas.
In developed urban areas, the lack of supply of electricity has had a detrimental effect on the ability of developers and building contractors to roll-out much needed housing developments.
Such a situation obviously has a tremendous adverse impact on all businesses, productivity, factory production and countries GDP.
2.2 The Establishment of Solar Charge
Against the above background, Solar Charge was founded and formed by Peter Graham in January 2008 with a view to addressing the past and current situation. The challenge that was presented to the Company by the market forces in all sectors of the economy was to offer and supply solar lighting products (as an alternative to the traditional electrical lighting products) that rendered:-
- Affordable pricing
- Products that are comparable to existing electrical lighting products in terms of brightness
- Products that would produce the required number of hours of constant brightness
- Low maintenance costs
- Ease of installation
- Products that produce full constant brightness in all types of weather conditions with a back-up redundancy of a minimum of 3 days
In recognizing the huge challenge and opportunity, Solar Charge (Pty) Ltd has designed and developed a range of superior solar street lighting products to meet and exceed the markets needs and criteria. The product range is currently being marketed to all countries on the African Continent.
The solar array kits carry unique component parts, thus giving The Company a leading edge technology product.
2.3 In addition, Solar Charge began working in conjunction with Renewable Energy Solutions (Pty) Ltd in early January 2010 to design development and manufacture a range of indoor solar lighting kits to meet the needs and demands for low cost and affordable housing developments. To this end, a contract was signed in March 2010 between the parties, in terms of which, Solar Charge (Pty) Ltd acquired the sole and exclusive distribution rights to market a specifically designed range of solar indoor lighting products in South Africa as well as to countries on the African continent.
These indoor solar lighting kits are powered by Uni-Solar thin film (world patented triple action solar thin film), thus empowering the Company with a leading edge technology product that currently has no competition. Subsequent signed addendums to this contract, has additionally afforded Solar Charge the distribution rights to market a range of custom designed solar advertising products as well as positioning the Company as a leading edge technology provider in offering numerous alternative energy products and solutions to all sectors of the economy.
